DKIT student Elga Jerusha Henry has been awarded a Generation Google Scholarship: for women in computer science in Ireland. Elga is a third-year student of the BSc (Hons) Software Development programme, and the first Software Development student to receive the esteemed scholarship. This significant milestone not only offers Elga financial support for her education but also grants her access to exclusive workshops and invaluable career mentorship opportunities from Google.

The Generation Google Scholarship is designed to empower women in computer science, fostering their growth as future leaders in the technology sector. It is awarded to individuals who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and outstanding leadership skills.

Amid strong competition, Elga stands out as one of only 11 students in Ireland to have received this scholarship. She expressed her excitement about this recognition, stating, "Receiving this scholarship is an incredible opportunity for my future, and I’m really excited to have been chosen."

Dr. Andrea Kealy, Lecturer in the Department of Visual and Human-Centred Computing at DkIT said:

I want to congratulate Elga on this wonderful achievement. It is fantastic to see her passion for computer science and diversity recognised through the Generation Google Scholarship.

The comprehensive curriculum in our Computing in Software Development course provides students with essential skills to design, develop, and maintain innovative software systems. I look forward to following Elga’s future success as she builds a career in the tech industry, where she can apply her knowledge and contribute meaningfully to the field.”
