N-TUTORR - June 2024

28 June 2024

N-TUTORR updates for June 2024

Sharing progress and discussing staff training.

Towards the end of June, Ciara O’Shea and Dr. Ronan Bree hosted two sessions for staff on campus, to provide an overview of the impact of N-TUTORR on DkIT and in particular focus on staff training opportunities. The team are very grateful for people taking time to attend and engage. Continuing on the theme of staff training, Ciara has generated a comprehensive report for the N-TUTORR Programme Management Office to outline how we approached this aspect of the project in DkIT, and to demonstrate the results and impact of the work to date.

Irish Times N-TUTORR Supplement

On 25 June, the Irish Times published a supplement on the success of N-TUTORR’s Stream 1 work, as a way to celebrate our recent Croke Park showcase. You can read the articles here: https://www.irishtimes.com/search/?query=n-tutorr  and learn more about Dr. Caroline Gilleran Stephens’ Fellowship project that focused on Education for Sustainability. Also included are photos of DkIT staff and students (Dr. Ronan Bree chaired a panel which included Dr. Áine McHugh, while some of our nursing students from Fellowship projects led by Joe Treacy and Ann Reynolds are pictured), in addition to comments on the success of the project by the National Coordinator Dr. Sharon Flynn and the HEA’s Tim Conlon, along with our Stream 1 co-leads Dr. Moira Maguire and Dr. Carina Ginty.

Student Champions

It was difficult to say goodbye to our first set of N-TUTORR Student Champions as their 7-month term came to an end, they made a positive impact on the work in DkIT.  However, a new call was issued for a further seven N-TUTORR Student Champions recently. The project team have been very impressed by the level of interest in this initiative, and following a shortlisting and interview process – led by Angela Magennis, seven new champions are currently in the process of being appointed. These students will carry out and lead on activities associated with the themes of N-TUTORR across DkIT.

N-TUTORR well represented at the EDEN conference.

Hosted at the University of Graz in Austria, the EDEN 2024 Annual Conference drew a large crowd from across Europe. The N-TUTORR project was well represented across several presentations.  This included Dr. Ronan Bree presenting an ‘action lab’ with EDEN colleagues around digital education leadership. Elements of this work were designed around conversations held by fellow presenter Dr. Deborah Arnold with DkIT’s Dr. Gerry Gallagher. You can watch that conversation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8Zv5ALR9po . Aspects of N-TUTORR’s Stream 1 were also presented, the stream which DkIT’s Dr. Moira Maguire co-leads nationally, and Angela Magennis coordinates locally.

Programmatic review focused sessions continue

This month continued to host the N-TUTORR supported sessions for School teams, to come together and reflect on N-TUTORR’s Curriculum Framework and programmatic review. The School of ICA were up this month, with their session facilitated by CELT’s Dr. Moira Maguire and Dr. Gerry Gallagher.  Dr. Arjan van Rossum and Dr. Ronan Bree provided content to outline the N-TUTORR Curriculum Framework, Guiding Principles and the associated staff toolkit.

Technical advances

The N-TUTORR project in DkIT is at an exciting time now, with a lot of software and hardware being activated and installed respectively.  We look forward to being able to show everyone the hybrid classrooms, mini-studio style rooms, a flagship collaborative and active learning space, and much more. In particular, many thanks to Eugene Stewart (N-TUTORR’s Senior Technical Officer) and Tony Richardson, who have been stellar in supporting Ronan with this aspect of the project. Exciting times.

N-TUTORR Digital Data Support for DkIT

Many congratulations to Stefanie Ratzky who has been appointed as the Digital Strategic Support Analyst. This will prove to be a critical role for supporting the Institute, and we wish Stefanie well in her new position.

SAVE THE DATE!

  • N-TUTORR’s final showcase takes place in Dublin’s Convention Centre on November 26th.  Mark it in your calendars! Further details to follow.
  • It’s looking like Wed 30 Oct will be the date for a DkIT, N-TUTORR ‘GenAI to Support Learning and Teaching’ in-person workshop. Via our training needs analysis, DkIT staff indicated this remains a key area, and the workshop is something the team along with other key stakeholders from the Registrar’s office, CELT, IT and the Library, are really excited about running. Again, final confirmation and further details to follow.

Thanks to everyone across DkIT who continue to support the N-TUTORR team. We are so appreciative of the help, positivity, energy and kindness shown by colleagues and our students. Thank you.
