N-TUTORR hosts Sectoral Employability lecture at DkIT
18 November 2024As part of a series of autumn lectures hosted by N-TUTTOR, DkIT recently hosted a hybrid lecture on the theme of employability titled "Fit for work? Graduate employability in a post-pandemic AI world".
The lecture was part of an Autumn Lecture series hosted by our partners across the technological higher education sector: DkIT, ATU, IADT, MTU, SETU, TU Dublin, and TUS. The large audience, made up of staff and students, was welcomed by Dr. Ronan Bree, N-TUTORR DkIT Institutional Lead, who congratulated DkIT Staff and the Career’s team, for their incredible work around ensuring students are both skilled and well prepared for employment.
Dr. Diarmuid O’Callaghan, DkIT’s President, spoke of employability as ‘critical’ to the success of graduates and congratulated the N-TUTORR team for their ‘impactful and trusted collaborations’ throughout the project. In particular, he referred to their valuable influence on the college community with their energetic impact on projects and collaborations across campus.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Angela Short from DkIT’s School of Business and Humanities explored the theme of employability in great depth, around how institutions can help students to become more employable and the knowledge, skills, attributes and mindsets required to ensure they are prepared for the future of work. Dr. Short also discussed the automation vs augmentation and the impact of AI on future roles. The themes of critical thinking and complex problem solving and their potential for improvement using AI were also topics which arose throughout the lecture, while the audience was also reminded of the importance of the human values of empathy, kindness and personal connection in a digital world.
