DkIT Welcome ‘Mark the Science Guy’ and 400 Primary School Children on Campus

As part of Engineering Ireland STEPS week Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) welcomed ‘Mark the Science Guy’ and nearly 400 Primary school children onto campus last week. With much excitement children from Scoil Mhuire na nGael NS, St Mary's NS Knockbridge, St. Joseph's NS, Scoil Naoimh Éanna Killanny, Scoil Naomh Buithe Termonfeckin, Aston Village ETNS, St. Furseys NS and Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire Ardee, attended an electrifying and fun filled show. This Engineers Ireland Roadshow hosted physicist, TV presenter and former professional footballer, Mark Langtry, aka 'Mark the Science Guy', for a highly interactive investigation into the engineering and technology in our favourite sports!



Mark put fun into all things engineering from football design, wearable technologies, sports equipment and materials to in-game analysis. He helped the primary school children discover how engineers create the modern game and improve the performances of athletes to help them gain the competitive edge. The show was full of challenges, demonstrations, experiments, skills and mucho thrills. This show truly revealed how engineering can improve your performance on and off the pitch.

This road show was part of STEPS Engineers Week which was rolled out with the aim of promoting engineering and the importance of the profession in Ireland. This annual event is coordinated on a national basis by Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme - funded by the Department of Education and Skills and industry leaders ARUP, ESB, Intel and TII.
