DkIT Welcome Ballsgrove Youth Club

06 June 2024

DkIT recently welcomed a group of young people from Ballsgrove Youth Club in Drogheda. Ballsgrove Youth Club was set up by Chloe Kelly who is a 2nd year Youth & Community Studies student in the School of Business and Humanities in DkIT. Chloe facilitated the visit in conjunction with DkIT’s Community Connector Eibhlin Linden.

The visiting group were treated to an overview presentation on DkIT by Eibhlin Linden. Next Diarmuid Cahill, DkIT’s school’s liaison officer, spoke to the group about courses available, college life and what DKIT has to offer. Johdi Quinn, lecturer and Institutes lead on the collaborative programmes with Louth Local Development, Pathways and Headstart, spoke to the students about supports available in the Institute and finally the group heard from Chloe Kelly’s experience as a student in DkIT, Chloe shared why she chose to study Youth and Community Studies and what college life is really like as a student.

The group enjoyed a tour of the campus and had lots of fun along the way whilst seeing the state-of-the-art facilities in the Nursing building, Science building, Engineering building, hospitality area and they also got to see a lecture theatre and the benefits of the library. To finish the day off the group enjoyed lunch in the main canteen before heading home with complimentary DKIT goodie bags.

After the visit Chloe said

“The conversations among the young people during the visit and afterwards were extremely powerful. This visit sparked a sense of opportunity among all the young people, and it certainly has begun to plant the seed around third level education.  Thank you DkIT”.

DKIT love welcoming groups onto campus. If you have a group that you feel would benefit from a tour and visit to the college like the above, please don’t hesitate to contact Eibhlin.Linden@dkit.ie.
