DkIT Takes to The Road for College Awareness Week 2018

26 November 2018

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) increased its schools outreach efforts last week to promote College Awareness Week, a national campaign which aims to promote the benefits of going to college, to help students of all ages to become college-ready and to showcase local role models.

The Institute organised numerous visits to schools across the North Leinster-South Ulster region and a series of campus tours to speak about the benefits of higher education and to showcase life at DkIT. Diarmuid Cahill, Schools Liaison Officer at DkIT leads schools outreach at DkIT. Speaking today, he commented:

“Higher education opens up new doors for students across our region. According to the latest graduate survey, 94% of our graduates are recorded to find employment or enter further study within 9 months of graduates. Higher education provides them with the opportunity to have exciting careers and enables them to bring new skills and new ideas to employers across our region.”

Cindy Andrews, Graduate Ambassador at DkIT and graduate of the BA (Hons) in Event Management assists with the school visits. Speaking today, she added,

“My time at DkIT has afforded me with more than just my degree. I made long-lasting friendships and have so many wonderful memories that will stay with me forever. I still keep in touch with many of my lecturers and am grateful for their continued support. I love meeting prospective students and talking to them about their options for college. Making decisions about college can be daunting, I felt this too but higher education has now given me the confidence to be ambitious for my future. I hope others can learn from my own story.”

College Awareness Week is being delivered in partnership with the following organisations: the Higher Education Authority, the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals and the Confederation of Student Services Ireland. It is a multi-organisational and collaborative initiative involving a wide range of stakeholders, including schools, HEIs, museums, libraries and businesses.

School Visits and Campus Tours can be arranged via our Schools Liaison Office. All enquiries should be made via schoolsliaison@dkit.ie.
