DkIT Students Visit the Rialto Community Youth Project
03 March 2017On Wednesday 15th February 2017, DkIT lecturers Johdi Quinn and Katherina Nugent took students from Youth Work and Digital Humanities to Rialto Community Youth Project, which works primarily with Fatima Mansions and Dolphins Barn local authority housing complexes in the Dublin 8 area.
The primary aim of this study visit was that students could witness first-hand the power of community and youth work. By meeting staff from the project and talking with them it facilitated students to make strong links from theory to authentic practice. Rialto Community Youth Project holds as its central aim a ‘ground up’ approach to community development and it places a strong emphasis on listening to what the people, young and the old, in the community have to say. The project has been a key player in the successful regeneration of the Fatima Mansions complex in recent years and is a national good practice example of ‘transformative change’ through youth and community work.
