DkIT Students Raise Funds for Make-a-wish and SOSAD

27 April 2023

A phenomenal group of DkIT business students, 4 class groups in all, came together during their Business Ethics and Corporate Citizenship module and raised monies for the two charities, Make-a-Wish Foundation and SOSAD Ireland. The group managed to raise an impressive €4,600 to divide between these two well deserved charities.

The 4 class groups included, all final year business students from the Bachelor of Business Studies, BB (Hons) Global Marketing, Bachelor of Business Studies (Hons) and the Higher Diploma in Business. Under the guidance of their lecturer Dr Maeve Mc Ardle, the group held fundraising events for selected charities as a portion of their continuous assessment work. The 4 classes voted unanimously for two charities SOSAD Ireland and the Make a Wish Foundation.

The group chose to host a 10K run/walk and organise a pub quiz as their fundraising events. Charitable donations for these events were collected on campus using donation buckets, by sponsor cards for those doing the 10k, an online donation site called iDonate and through the sale of tickets for the pub quiz.

Alison Grant and Katie Pike, students on year 3 of the Bachelor of Business Studies Course said

We co-headed the planning team, marketing team and operations team. From this module we’ve discovered how to be better leaders, how to delegate tasks and keep up communications between groups. In a short space of time, we had nearly 100 people looking to us for guidance, so we had to be very organised and adaptable and become more assertive and confident within ourselves. I think partaking in this project is a great opportunity for any business student who wants to learn real life skills and apply everything they’ve learned from the course into an event”.
