DkIT Students Present a Musical Extravaganza

10 July 2024

DkIT recently held an extremely successful and well attended event which they recently held in the Venue Drogheda Arts Centre. This electric performance included students from all years of Musical Theatre and Music in DkIT who were expertly supported on the night by Year 4 students from the Institute’s Audio & Music Production course.

The first half of the event’s programme consisted of students from Year 1 Musical Theatre, who performed a selection of songs from Mean Girls, Year 2 Musical Theatre students performed an assortment of solos and ensembles from Hades Town, the musical Annie, falsettos along with many more musical compositions.

After the Interval, Year 4 Music Students Gavin Gribben and Aoife Higgins took to the stage to perform a selection of musical delights. They were followed by Year 1 student Lorena Benda da Rocha who treated the audience to an exquisite performance of an original song.

This event also allowed for a number of students from the Audio & Music course to showcase their bands. Fourth year students from the BA (Hons) Audio & Music Production and their collaborators performed the work they produced as part of their capstone Major Project. This included Ireland's fastest rapper Adam Cully, with guest appearances from singer/songwriter Sorcha Hickey O'Dwyer, an electrifying performance from experimental noise-duo BBFT and the up-and-coming indie rockers In Between Honey closed the night.

DkIT lecturers Annalisa Monticelli and Jonathan Duggan coordinated the event with collaboration from Theatre and Musical Theatre lecturers Will Guppy and Sarah McCourt.
