DkIT Students Collaborate with Other EU Students in France

05 April 2023

Students from the BA (Hons) International Tourism Management programme and the Department of Business participated in a five-day Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) at the Institut Universitaire Technologie (IUT) Lens in Northern France. The programme which ran from the 6th to the 10th of March involved teams from the three participating institutions -  DkIT, IUT Lens and ISP Gaya in Portugal.

The students were involved in a collaborative, team-based activity which saw them tasked with organising a City Break en France. Each team was responsible for designing a tailor-made city break for prospective clients. Employing a multi-disciplinary approach, the students had to demonstrate skills in marketing, sales analysis, and digital resources to produce a brochure, video and oral presentation. Each team presented their final bespoke package to a jury at the end of the week.

It was not all work, however, students sampled French culture with visits to the Louvre-Lens Museum –an offshoot of the Louvre in Paris. There was also visit to the network of tunnels under the city centre of Arras where the soldiers of World War 1 funnelled their way underground to surprise German soldiers on the enemy line. The students were also treated to French hospitality in the form of lunch in the Grand-Palace, Arras and a visit to the panoramic restaurant in the Parc Départemental d’Olhain.

Students were accompanied by lecturers from the School of Business and Humanities – Helen Howley and Vicky Leahy
