Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) recently hosted an event to mark their selection as an educational collaborator with the world renowned Blackmagic Design. DkIT invited students and prospective students to join them to celebrate the partnership between Blackmagic Design at an event on campus where 4 distinguished industry professionals talked about their creative journeys and how they use Blackmagic design products daily. This occasion also facilitated demonstrations of the super innovative Blackmagic Design products for all the attendees.

The Blackmagic Design company have established an Education Partner Program and have invited DkIT to be one of only 10 key Education Partners across Europe and the Dundalk Institute has been named as the only Irish Education Partner.

Blackmagic has grown rapidly to become one of the world's leading innovators and manufacturers of creative video technology and the company’s founders have a long history in post-production editing and engineering. This partnership will position DkIT as a centre of excellence for postproduction training in Europe.

The Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music in DkIT have significantly invested this year on its Audio-Visual Labs and Edit Suites. This extensive state of the art refurb included the latest Apple Mac Studio computers, 4K Monitors, Media Servers and industry standard software, such as Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve - the world leader in colour correction and colour grading technology. The global film and entertainment market, which is expected to grow at a rate of 7.2% from 2023 to 2030, makes it a brilliant career choice for our Film & TV graduates. The announcement of this recent partnership will ensure DkIT remains at the forefront of new techniques and technologies.

The Film and TV course in DkIT have already been utilising a Blackmagic Ecosystem consisting of Digital Cinema Cameras, TV Studio Hardware and Postproduction Facilities. The benefits of this new educational partnership will include Blackmagic providing free copies of Resolve Studio technology to DkIT. The Institute will receive a one-time financial credit on joining the programme and there will be student engagement opportunities in the form of Masterclasses with Industry experts in postproduction. All Film & TV students in DkIT will receive a student welcome pack from Blackmagic which will contain branded water bottles, mouse pads etc. And finally, the Institute will be offered amazing opportunities to interact with other International Universities and Institutes in the Programme.

Sarah McCann, Lecturer, Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music, DkIT said

“We are delighted to announce this partnership as an ongoing evolvement of our relationship with Blackmagic.   Many of our lecturing team on the BA (Hons) in Film & Television Production recently became Certified Trainers of Da Vinci Resolve software so this partnership is the next logical step to ensure that we continue to offer our students industry-standard training throughout their degree”
