DkIT Ladies GAA in Division 4 Championship Success
01 December 2021DkIT's Ladies GAA team have won the Division 4 title to wrap up a great year for the Ladies setup at the institute. The Ladies Blue team were victorious over Queens University Belfast 1-10 to 0-10 to win the title in a rain-soaked Belfast. For the first time in DkIT GAA history two ladies teams were fielded with Ladies team Blue competing in Division 4 and Ladies Team White competing in Division 7, with over 60 players registered for the campaign.
DkIT got off to a fast start with a poachers goal from Aisling O’Doherty, where she was first to react to a shot off the post to tap in for an early goal. With the goal and multiple scores from Scholarship student Lauren Boyle, DkIT raced into an early lead. This lead proved difficult to claw back for QUB, especially with excellent work round the middle by Mia Duffy and Katelyn O’Brien. As QUB piled on the pressure, keeper Rebecca Lamb Fagan pulled off an amazing set of double saves to drag DkIT over the line and clinch the victory. Stern defence from Holly Lamb Sally and Caitlin O’Reilly made sure DkIT got over the line to lift the Division 4 All Ireland League trophy.
This capped off an excellent season for the Ladies Blue team, and the Ladies White team also had a promising season, just missing out on the semi-finals. All this has left manager Karl O’Connor and his coach Denise McKenna very pleased and excited for the future.
