DkIT GAA Freshers in All Ireland Division 2 League Success

DkIT freshers team picked up the All Ireland Higher Education Div 2 Cup on Wednesday 7^th of December when they overcame Ulster University (UUJ) on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-9. The match was played in front of a large crowd and those in attendance were treated to a great battle between two equally matched teams.

The first half was extremely tight with both defences on top but DkIT went in leading by 0-4 to 0-2 with Sean Reynolds, Dara Mc Donnell, Daniel Ehichoya, and Harry Butterly all contributing a point each.

DkIT were dealt a massive blow at the start of the second half when reduced to 14 players following a sending-off. However, the team showed huge character to stay in control of the match. Despite a couple of late scares, the team managed to prevail on a final score of 0-10 to 0-9.

The Captain of the team Ryan Duffy was outstanding on the night and accepted the cup on behalf of the team. The Health and Physical Activity student followed in the footsteps of his brother Kieran (Monaghan Senior player) who captained DkIT to victory in the 2015 and 2017 Trench Cup victories.

The team is now preparing to enter the Div 1 championship starting this month and has been drawn in a group with UUJ, Queens and St Marys.
