BA Musical Theatre students enjoy exciting workshop with Hamilton cast member

18 October 2024

DkIT’s BA in Musical Theatre students recently gained inspiration from Buna McCreery-Njie, a cast member of the revolutionary musical Hamilton during a workshop in An Táin Arts Centre. The musical is currently performing a ten-week run at The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and is expected to see crowds of almost 150,000 people during the run.

Students worked on scenes from the show and received guidance on audition techniques and character development from an industry professional.

McCreery-Nije offered positive advice and experiences drawn from his own career, providing a memorable afternoon of performance and discussion with the Musical Theatre students, who were delighted to engage with the musical star and pick up some top performance tips.

Year 3 student Jana Markuskova said:

“I enjoyed the experience of learning choreography from a professional musical theatre artist.  It was a great learning experience for me.”

Lorianné O’Rourke also spoke about the value of the opportunity:

“It was fascinating to hear insider advice from a true professional.  As someone who loves to dance, it was amazing to hear the thought process Buna placed behind every move in the combination we learned.  I would recommend his workshops to anyone aspiring to do musical theatre.”
