The aim of this programme is to upskill charge hands, supervisors, trainee managers and general operatives in the food industry in the area of quality management, food processing and operations management, while also focusing largely on developing interpersonal and managerial skills.

This course aims to upskill charge hands, supervisors, trainee managers and general operatives in the food industry in the area of quality management, food processing and operations management, while also focusing largely on developing interpersonal and managerial skills.
All of the modules were designed by academics and consultants in the food industry, who are experts in the specific areas and aware of the requirements for upskilling general operatives in food production. The various skills required by employers were taken into account when designing the programme, in which 15 credits were assigned for food-specific modules and 15 credits to health and safety and managerial focused modules.
Modules on this programme include:
Semester 1:
- Quality Management in the Food Industry (Part 1 of 2)
- Food Processing and Operations Management
- Introduction to Supervisory Management
Semester 2:
Predominately on-line 3 evenings per week including live on-line lectures and recorded lectures. In addition students may be required to attend for face to face classes 1 or 2 days (09.00hrs to 16.00hrs) per semester (dates to be confirmed). The evenings are agreed at the beginning of term between the lectures and the students. Lectures can last from 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs.

Due to the blended learning delivery within this course students should have access to a PC / Mac, a headset with a mic, and a broadband internet connection from home, so as to be able to fully participate in the course. Basic IT skills essential.

Graduates from the Certificate in Fundamentals of Food Production Management will have professional skills and knowledge in food production management that will allow them progression in their workplace to opportunities such as charge hands, supervisors and trainee managers.
Graduates could also seek further education qualifications in the food production area.

Applicants should have a minimum qualification at QQI Level 5 or Leaving Certificate qualification. Applicants who do not have a Level 5 qualification will be considered on prior relevant experience and may be interviewed.
Applicants will be expected to have access to a PC/Mac, a headset with a mic, and a broadband internet connection so as to be able to participate in the programme in the manner expected of them.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language must have English level of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.
This Level 6 programme is specifically targeted at general operatives with experience in the food industry, who may not have had any formal education in the food area, with a view to developing their interpersonal, supervisory and academic skills.
In particular, this Certificate programme would suit charge hands, supervisors, trainee managers and general operatives in the food industry.
