Course Overview

This course provides a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge biotechnological solutions to address environmental challenges. Key topics include bioremediation of polluted soils and water using microbial and plant-based technologies, sustainable bioenergy production from diverse biomass sources and energy-smart agricultural practices that promote energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The course also covers environmental policies and regulations, innovative climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies and the latest advancements in remediation technologies, including the use of AI, IoT and biosensors. Students will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into designing and applying biotechnology for a more sustainable future.

Course Delivery and Modules

This programme is co-delivered with our MSc in Agricultural Biotechnology.

It is a one-semester course, with attendance required on a half-day per week, on either Thursday or Friday.

Entry requirements

  • Minimum of a second-class honours degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Science, Biotechnology, Food Science, Bioscience or related discipline.
  • Applicants with relevant experience who do not meet the academic entry requirements may also apply.
  • International students must have a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 6.5.
