Course Overview

This 4-year part-time honours course will provide students with a robust understanding of specific business roles played by finance, accounting, marketing, human resource management and information technology. The varied and in-depth nature of this course allows graduates to progress into a variety of fulfilling career pathways.

The Bachelor of Business is a broad Business and Management programme that explores subjects essential to contemporary business such as finance, accounting, marketing, human resource management and information technology. The purpose of the course is to give participants the business skills that are in demand by companies today.

On completion of this course students will;

  • Acquire the necessary skills to understand a range of business functions and the multi-disciplinary nature of business. Using this foundation, students will be more prepared to specialise in an area of their choice.
  • Demonstrate a range of skills required of managers.
  • Understand the influence of the international context on business and management. This will prepare participants to embark on careers in international business.
  • Develop their learning skills to meet the demands of future postgraduate study.

Course Delivery and Modules

This programme will be delivered using traditional lectures and workshops as well as blended learning approaches. Assessment methods will comprise a combination of formal exams, course work and case study. Examinations will be held at the end of each semester in January and May.

Classes are held over two evenings per week (Mondays and Wednesdays 6.30-9.30pm) plus four full Saturdays per semester (9.00am-4.00pm)

Saturdays dates as follows:

  2. Saturday 19th October
  3. Saturday 9th November
  4. Saturday 7th December

  • After 2 years - Higher Certificate in Business Studies (Level 6, 120 credits)
  • After 3 years - Bachelor of Business Studies (Level 7, 180 credits)
  • After 4 years - Bachelor of Business Studies (Hons) (Level 8, 240 credits)

Fees and Funding

The course fee is €2,300 per year.

Tuition fees for Year 1 student (and new students directly entering Years 2, 3 and 4) of the BBS are payable in 4 instalments as follows:

  • Instalment 1: €200 (non-refundable) is payable to confirm your acceptance of a course place.
  • Instalment 2: €950 is payable by the end of October of the academic year.
  • Instalment 3: €1,150 is payable by the end of February of the academic year.

Our returning students to Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 pay as follows:

  • Instalment 1: €1,150 is payable by the end of October of the academic year. 
  • Instalment 2: €1,150 is payable by the end of February of the academic year.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) with pass grades in six subjects at minimum O6 or H7:

  • INCLUDING At least two H5 Grades
  • AND Mathematics Grade O6 or H7
  • AND English Grade O6 or H7 OR Irish Grade O6 or H7

Applicants who do not meet the minimum education requirements but are 23 years or older and have relevant work experience may still apply for consideration by the Institute. If you are applying as a mature student be sure to submit your CV and any letters of reference you have from employers.

International students must have English level of IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent).

Advanced Entry applicants with relevant qualifications more than 5 years old will be assessed by the Institute on a case by case to determine if, and at what level, they may access the business degree.


Northern Ireland/UK Entry Requirements:

Applicants must meet the matriculation requirement of 6 different subjects which must include:

  • Mathematics at GCSE (Grade A* - C) or better
  • English (or Irish) at GCSE (Grade A* - C) or better
  • Two subjects at either:
      • ‘A Level’ (Grade A* - C)
      • AND/OR Applied A-Level (Grade A* - C)
      • AND/OR BTEC National Level 3 (National Award, Subsidiary Diploma, Extended Certificate, 90-Credit Diploma, Foundation Diploma) (Grade Merit or Distinction).
      • AND/OR OCR Cambridge Technical Level 3 (Introductory Diploma, Extended Certificate, Subsidiary Diploma, Foundation Diploma, 90-Credit Diploma) (Grade Merit or Distinction)
      • OR BTEC National Level 3 Diploma (Grade min: MM)
      • OR OCR Cambridge Technical Level 3 Diploma (Grade min: MM)
      • OR BTEC National Level 3 Extended Diploma (Grade min: MMP)
  • The remaining subjects must be different from that presented above and may be drawn from recognised subjects at:
      • GCSE (Grade A* - C)
      • AND/OR AS Level’ (Grades A - E)
      • AND/OR A-level’ (Grades A* - E)
      • AND/OR Applied ‘A-level’ (Grade A* - E)
      • AND/OR BTEC National Level 3 (National Award, Subsidiary Diploma, Extended Certificate, 90-Credit Diploma, Foundation Diploma, Diploma or Extended Diploma*) (Pass, Merit or Distinction).
      • AND/OR OCR Cambridge Technical Level 3 (Introductory Diploma, Extended Certificate, Subsidiary Diploma, Foundation Diploma, 90-Credit Diploma, Diploma or Extended Diploma*) (Pass, Merit or Distinction).

PLEASE NOTE: If you wish to transfer from year 3 of a Level 7 Business Degree to Year 4 of this Business Degree you will need to have achieved a minimum overall mark of 50% in your Level 7 Degree.

Advanced Entry applicants seeking entry to Years 2, 3 or 4 with relevant higher education qualifications more than 5 years old will be assessed by the Institute on a case by case to determine if, and at what level, they may access the business degree.
