Student Leap Card on Bus Éireann and Expressway services

Holders of Student and Young Adult Leap cards are entitled to purchase tickets at half-price fares on Bus Éireann and Expressway services. However, college identity cards are no longer acceptable as a valid form of student ID.

Concession tickets at student/young adult fare rates are offered to holders of Student and Young Adult (19-23) Leap cards only. All other forms of student identification will no longer be acceptable. Students are advised to apply for either a Student or Young Adult Leap card, as appropriate, on the TFI website. You can also see which Commercial Bus Operators offer the Discount on the TFI website.

Arriving by Bus

Arriving by Car

In the main Dublin to Belfast motorway leave at junction 16 (signposted Ardee, Dundalk South). Take exit signposted Dundalk (N52) and continue through a set of traffic lights, heading towards Dundalk. Go through roundabout, taking first exit and when you reach Dundalk turn left at XEROX junction (first set of traffic light). DkIT is half a mile along on the right hand side.

Arriving by Train

Dundalk is served by the mainline train route between Belfast and Dublin. Trains run daily. Check out schedules on the Irish Rail Website link. The Institute is a 25 minute walk from Dundalk's Clarke Train station.

The DkIT shuttle bus now picks up and drops off at the Dundalk train station.

Free Shuttle Services

If carparks are full, students and visitors can park their cars (free of charge) at the carpark at DkIT Sport.

The DkIT Shuttle Bus will depart Dundalk Train Station each morning at 8.25 am and will travel to the Institute, dropping off at the Hoeys Lane entrance. It will then collect from the DkIT Sport car park and proceed to the institute. 

Please note the shuttle service has been revised to facilitate the addition of the collection each morning and drop off to the train station each evening. The last shuttle will now depart DkIT each evening at 5.10pm and travel via DkIT Sport and onto the Train Station.

Please note: The shuttle bus will stop on campus at the Hoeys Lane entrance, Main Reception, Nursing Building and P.J. Carroll’s.

From Dublin Airport

  • Taxi — 35-40 minute journey of approx 40 miles.
  • Bus — Buses Travel directly from Dublin Airport to Dundalk. Check out schedules on the Bus Eireann website link. There is also a bus from the airport that stops right outside the college.
  • Car — Follow the M1, direction north towards Belfast. Take Exit 16 and follow the signs to Dundalk. Turn left at XEROX junction. DkIT is half a mile along on the right hand side. See here for more details and interactive journey planning.

Cycling to DkIT

DkIT is keen to promote cycling as a viable alternative to car based transport. There is a number of bike sheds throughout the campus as well as changing facilities.
