How to Make a Subject Access Request

Under the Data Protection Acts, you may receive a copy of any personal data about you that is held by Dundalk Institute of Technology. If you wish to make a request for access to your personal data, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete the Personal Data Access Request Application Form - please give as much information as possible about the data you wish to access.
  2. Include proof of identity (e.g. a copy of your passport, drivers licence or staff/student ID card) and a fee of €6.35 with your application. Please note that fees are being abolished with the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation in May 2018.
  3. Send the form to the Data Protection Officer at email address FOI@dkit.ie or post to Data Protection / Freedom of Information Officer, Dundalk Institute of Technology, Dublin Road, Dundalk, Co Louth.

A decision in relation to requests made under Section 4 of the Data Protection Acts (access to personal information) will be made within 40 days of receipt of your request. (Under GDPR legislation this will be reduced to 20 calendar days from May 2018) A decision in relation to requests made under Section 3 of the Data Protection Acts (access to a description of personal data held) will be made with 21 days of receipt of your request. If you are not satisfied with the response to your request, you may contact the Data Protection Commissioner, at www.dataprotection.ie or Canal House, Station House, Portarlington, Co Laois who will investigate the matter for you.
