Hi I'm a lecturer and researcher in Creative Media in Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT). As a lecturer I am involved in many interesting subjects that could be broadly grouped into Game Visuals, Graphic Design, Animation and Authoring for Multimedia Devices. I also supervise level 8 Degree students in BSc ‘Computing in Games Development’ and BA ‘Communications in Creative Media’. As a researcher I am concerned mostly with Game Visuals in their application and design.
Before joining DKIT, I worked as a Creative director in ‘bespoke training software’ aimed at sales staff of multinational pharmaceutical companies. I was involved in the developing of flash animation, interactive exercises, video simulations and 3d environmental products, making these the ‘High End’ of the market. I was also a senior multimedia designer in many successful e-learning projects for large multinational ‘blue chip’ companies.
As a researcher I believe, as computer gamer populations grow older, and as new older users are participating in computer gaming culture, there is an opening for different target audiences to come into focus. New and exciting issues may now become relevant to the game graphic designer. What is different about the visual tastes of the older game player? How does it diverge? If at all, to the traditional teenage video game enthusiast. Check how the project is progressing in my portfolio section of my website
As part of being a researcher I have been lucky enough to be involved in the launching of a game company in a joint research project with the collage. As part of this research we created the companies overview of the ‘game design document’ and various game graphics. Check it out in my portfolio section of my website
