Jordan Keating

Bachelor (Hons) in Business Studies

“What I like most about my course is the diversity. Not only is the class quite big so you get to know and meet lots of people but the career options after college are so broad. I am studying business but I do electives such as marketing and management so I could potentially branch off into those areas too."

Jordan is from Dundalk Co. Louth and a final year Bachelor (Hons) of Business Studies student.

“I’m a dedicated member of the DkIT Table Tennis Society. I love it. I joined the society on my first day here and it was probably one of my best decisions. It has allowed me to make new friends that I wouldn’t have met otherwise and is also something fun to do in the evenings after college. It definitely is one of them things where it helps you just forget about exams and coursework for a while and you can relax. Last year I was asked to take over the society which was a huge achievement. I’ve been a member for so long, it was nice to know that people wanted me to be the chairperson. I would 100% recommend to anyone going to college to at least sign up for one society, you meet so many people that you wouldn’t get to meet otherwise because you’re in different courses or different buildings.”

“DkIT has opened up so many opportunities for me, I was able to do a J1 which was the best experience of my life. I got to go to America for the summer with my friends and I can’t wait to do it again this summer. You can only get a J1 if you’re a college student, so it’s definitely something to consider when deciding if you want to go to third level education. I went to Upstate New York and worked in a Summer Camp because I was only 18 at the time but it was so much fun and I’d highly recommend it to anyone!”

“I chose DkIT because the courses appealed to me and I knew I wanted to do some form of business. It also allowed me to get a part time job on the side and have some extra money. I wouldn’t like to travel too far for college because I don’t think you’d have much of a social life which for me is a big part of my college experience and living so close has allowed me more free time to be able to get a part-time job. I’m from Dundalk so it’s a 5 minute drive which is dead handy."

“What I like most about my course is the diversity. Not only is the class quite big so you get to know and meet lots of people but the career options after college are so broad. I am studying business but I do electives such as marketing and management so I could potentially branch off into those areas too. At the moment I’m still making up my mind on the exact path I want to take but I have no doubt that I’ll have the opportunity of many. We also get the opportunity to do work placement, study abroad on ERASMUS or stay in DkIT for a semester. I chose to stay in DkIT because I had just come home from my J1. I felt that I had achieved enough experience through that, that the semester here would benefit me more.”

Best thing about DkIT?

“I like being able to live so close and having so many friends nearby. It’s so easy to just meet up and go for a coffee or go to DkIT Sport and play 5-a-side, or I'll meet up with the guys from Table Tennis Society too. As I said, I definitely think everyone should join a society here in DkIT because it definitely adds to your overall experience at college. I also like how approachable the lecturers are. They know you by name which I really like. I have friends that went to bigger universities who didn’t have that and it definitely impacted their experience negatively.”
