Mr. Brendan Walsh

Brendan Walsh is a lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department and is a civil engineering programme director. He was awarded the title of Chartered Engineer by Engineers Ireland having previously worked in industry on a variety of large scale infrastructural projects. Brendan continues his relationship with industry providing specialist civil engineering advice to consultancy firms. Brendan is in the final stages of his PhD in Ocean Energy.

Brendan is in the final stages of his PhD in Ocean Energy. The project seeks to validate the use of measurements taken of the pressure in a volume of air contained in a chamber above an oscillating water column (OWC) (which is in communication with the ocean) to estimate the sea state which induces motion of the water column. The sea state may be estimated using a frequency-dependent, linear transfer function between the pressure and the sea-state, once the transfer function is established.
