Centre for Freshwater and Environmental Studies (CFES)

The Centre for Freshwater and Environmental Studies (CFES) is an active and vibrant research centre within the School of Health and Science in DkIT. CFES engages in inter- and multi-disciplinary research that investigates environmental issues and evaluates effective solutions across three main themes: Water, Communities & Catchments, Agri-Environmental Management, and Environmental Education

CFES also facilitates undergraduate research, and undertakes educational and outreach activities, while providing relevant scientific information for government agencies, policymakers, communities and other interested parties.

Research Themes

CFES is currently involved in a number of large-scale projects that are addressing complex cross-disciplinary issues that have a regional, national, and international focus, across the following 3 themes.

Our People

There are eight principal investigators in CFES, including the director Dr Suzanne Linnane.

Dr Hammond Antwi Sarpong is working as a senior postdoctoral researcher funded by the lrish Research Council (IRC), Dr Reza Tavanger is a postdoctoral researcher funded through the SFI Challenge funded AMEND project.

There are currently fourteen postgraduate research students in CFES. Support staff includes two research technicians, Allison Murdock and Andrea Duffy. At any time, there are also a number of bursary students, visiting researchers and interns.
