DkIT Students unveil creative, production and performance projects at Fís 2021

25 May 2021

The launch of Fís 2021, the graduate show for the BA (Hons) in Communications in Creative Media, BA Media Arts and Technologies, BA (Hons) in Production of Music and Audio, BA Theatre and Film Practice and BA (Hons) in Drama and Performance (Add-On) from the Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music at Dundalk Institute of Technology will take place on the 1st June 2021 starting at 11am. This year’s online exhibition will take place through the zoom link below and will feature a diverse range of creative and interactive projects, performances events and music production projects representing the creative and imaginative skills of our students. Student projects will be accessible through the exhibition’s website - https://fis.comp.dkit.ie.

The exciting exhibition showcases a diverse range of work that the students created during their award year utilising visual design, narrative, audio, video and interactive skills to create their final year projects. The BA (Hons) in Communications in Creative Media students have created a range of projects exploring a variety of topics such as the wellbeing of young people and supporting students at university. These projects are using traditional skills of design, web authoring and audio and video editing alongside utilising various social media platforms to share their work and engage with their audiences.

BA Media Arts and Technologies class of 2021 have revealed their creativity and dedication to their studies and each other by successfully completing their group projects which interpret the theme of TIME.

3rd year BA (Hons) Production of Music & Audio students have been busy crafting commercially viable ‘singles’ over the semester. In spite of some of the limitations and restrictions this year our students have produced some of the most exciting productions on record yet.

3rd year BA Theatre and Film Practice and year 4 BA (Hons) Drama and Performance students have worked to create an interdisciplinary Performance Studies event inspired by various topics studied throughout semester 1 and 2. Topics such as Gender, The Body, Space, Race, Protest, The Abject and The Liminal have all served as starting points for these online events. Speaking about the launch of Fís 21, Dr Adèle Commins, Head of Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music, noted

"I am extremely proud of the achievements of our students this year and we are delighted to be celebrating their work. Students have encountered many challenges this year on account of COVID-19 and have reimagined their projects to create pieces of a very high standard. We hope that the skills that they have gained this year will stand to them in their successful careers in the creative industries.’ Curator for Fís 21, Fiachra Ó Cuinneagáin notes that ‘it's wonderful to see the creativity and imagination of our students every year. It’s inspiring to see such a wide scope of mediums and technologies being used and the variety of topics being explored. Our students have worked incredibly hard this year and shown great determination and I feel very grateful to have been part of this."

We encourage you to join us for this year’s showcase and celebrate the creativity of the students at Dundalk Institute of Technology.
