DkIT students Elevate Employability

12 July 2024

A highlight in the Dundalk Institute of Technology calendar is the annual celebration of the impressive achievements of our DkIT Elevate Awardees. On June 17th, 22 students across disciplines and stages received this unique award for 2024.

The DkIT Elevate Awards recognise students who, through their voluntary engagement (45+ hours) have contributed significantly to the DkIT campus and community, and in doing so, have demonstrated a valuable range of employability skills through their engagements. Alongside their voluntary work, students must complete a CV, Linkedin, Graduate Attribute reflection and a recorded Elevator Pitch to meet the the award criteria.

Motivated by sharing a passion, being an active student voice, developing a community of support, interest in learning new things, these students are guided through a process which supports them in identifying skills and attributes that will support their career development.

DkIT President Diarmuid O'Callaghan presented the students with their Elevate Awards and acknowledged specifically their leadership skill, it's impact on the DkIT community, and in their own lives and their future careers. He highlighted the importance of this Elevate framework and the role of the Careers & Employability, Sports & Societies office, CELT, Academic Schools staff and the Student Union in supporting this award and encouraging students to engage in extra-curricular activities.

Hosted by Catherine Staunton, from DkIT’s Careers & Employability Centre, the event put a spotlight on the diversity of the voluntary roles that our students are involved in; Class Reps, Student Ambassadors, Sports & Societies Committee Members, DkIT Community Outreach Activities, Open Days, Employer Events and Consultations Forums. With activities ranging from the Agricultural Society and Anime Society to Coder Dojo and Christian Society.

Dr Bronagh (McGrane) Doyle DkIT Sports & Societies Officer celebrated the quality of the students commitment, their passion for their club, sport and society and particularly highlighted the importance of connecting their volunteering to the employability skills that will set them apart in their careers. DkIT Student Union President Eoin Clarke expressed his thanks to the students for their vital and valuable contribution to the student community at DkIT.
