DkIT Social Care Students Enjoy Chats Whilst Reflecting on Ageing
08 May 2024Dundalk Institute of Technology’s final year Social Care students wrapped up their studies at DkIT with commitment and energy, spending their last morning getting insights about ageing. For the second year running, members of the Living Lab Panel at NetwellCASALA in DkIT hosted the students for an informal chat and advice session from their Living Lab Panel which is comprised of people (of any age) with experience or a perspective on ageing and older age. Panel members play a central role in the work of NetwellCASALA, who research and design digital health technologies, by contributing to both student events and research projects.
For students, this event was an extremely informative opportunity to speak with older people, one student identified learning from ‘being able to engage with people who have a completely different outlook and experience with life.’ The session enhanced active listening skills for students who realised, ‘older people are young at heart as well. We can have the exact same conversations with them as we would with younger people’. Panel members imparted some sage advice to the students as they finish college including: ‘Live your life how you want, stick to your values, and learn every day’ and remember that ‘things can change and not to be disheartened by it’, ‘enjoy the moment’. The team at NetwellCASALA thanked all who participated and wish all the DkIT final year students well in their exams and in their next adventure.
