DkIT short films to screen at Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival

18 February 2020

DkIT students, completing the BA (Hons) in Film and Television Production, have been selected to screen five short films and documentaries at this year’s Dublin International Film Festival Student Day, on Thursday, February 27.

The selected projects are 'Ghost Estate', 'Sky's the Limit', 'Fighting Despair', 'Music in my Mind' and 'R/Place: The Great Pixel War'.

Fourth year film student, Andrew Nolan, was the Screenwriter and Cinematographer for Sky's the Limit. Upon hearing the news he said,

"It's just incredible to have our work screened at such a prestigious festival. As students and emerging filmmakers, it's an honour to be part of this special day."

Taking place in February each year, the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival is Ireland’s premier film festival event. Soon coming into its 18th year, the Festival has grown to a maturity with a features programme that charts the very best in new international cinema and a history of guests that include Al Pacino, Julie Andrews, Ralph Fiennes, Paul Schrader, Danny DeVito, Eric Bana, Stellan Skarsgard, Richard Gere, Daniel Day-Lewis, Russell Crowe and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Ghost Estate, Sky's the Limit and Fighting Despair were produced as part of the third-year Film Project module. The module, taught by Industry Producer Sarah McCann and industry practitioners Marian Quinn (Director) and Jass Foley (Cinematographer), prepares the students to make an industry standard short film.
Commenting on the great news, Sarah McCann stated:

"We are thrilled to be part of the Dublin International Film Festival, and we were honoured to welcome Grainne Humphreys, Festival Director, to DKIT for a guest lecture last semester. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to have their work screened at an international film festival, along with being offered the opportunity to meet with film students from other colleges and many film industry professionals."
