DkIT Film students selected to screen short films at Dublin Film Festival

30 July 2018

Third-year DkIT students, completing the BA Hons in Film and Television Production, have been selected to screen three short films at this year’s ‘9th Underground Cinema Film Festival’, taking place in Dún Laoighaire, Co. Dublin from August 30th to September 3rd.

The festival, now in its 9th year, champions the work of emerging filmmakers, with the belief that it is the filmmaker’s passion that drives a film. With 300 more film submissions than last year’s festival, this year’s event will see over 100 independently produced films from all over the world screened to festival audiences.

The three short films, ‘The Gates’, ‘Ghealach Fola’, and ‘The Stars Above and the Frogs in the Grass’ were produced as part of the third-year Film Project module on the BA Hons in Film and Television Production Degree. The module, taught by Producer Marina Hughes and industry practitioners Marian Quinn (Director) and Jass Foley (Cinematographer), prepares the students to make an industry standard short film.

Commenting on the great news, Programme Director, Lorcan Dunne stated:

We are thrilled that three DkIT shorts will screen at the 9th Underground Film Festival in Dublin. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to view their films with a large audience and network with industry practitioners from around the globe. This is the most successful entries we've had to date and a true indicator of the quality of work the course is producing. A huge congrats to everyone involved!”
