DkIT Celebrates TY Entrepreneurs

14 October 2022

Dundalk Institute of Technology recently hosted the TY Entrepreneurship Programme on campus. This initiative gives students an insight into a variety of careers and promotes entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaboration.

Transitional Year students from St Louis, Dundalk and St Olivers, Drogheda battled it out in a Dragons Den style competition which was adjudicated by Pat McCormack (Engineers Ireland Northeast Region), Colman Ledwidth (DkIT Head of Department), Jennifer Bluemling (VP Global Marketing Overhaul), Niamh Byrne (Manufacturing Lead Wuxi Biologics), Amanda-Jane Gainford (NSAI and Engineers Ireland Northeast Region) and David Connolly (New Frontiers Programme Manager, RDC, DkIT).

The students spent a full week developing their new product concept (Probiotic Handwash) in conjunction with DkIT Science, Engineering and Business. The top 2 teams from each school then presented to the judging panel at DkIT.

The winners of this week long project were team Terry Berry Biotics from St Olivers in Drogheda who consisted of Molly, Laura and Nathan.

The programme is sponsored by the HEA and prizes were donated by Engineers Ireland Northeast Region and Overhaul.
