Students from DkIT’s Masters in Building Surveying recently presented their dissertation research and findings to James Lonergan, Educational Officer at the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI). Students were tasked with communicating the complexity of their research including the aims, objectives, methodologies and findings through a visually appealing poster display.

Following a discussion of their research topics, James Lonergan presented an award, sponsored by SCSI to Niamh Irish for her presentation titled "An Investigation into energy efficient renovation of industrial buildings." The research aimed to investigate the capability of industrial building to achieve 2030 energy efficiency goals set by the EU in accordance with energy performance of buildings legislation.

Other topics of study presented by the students included Building Regulations and Mechanical Ventilation in Commercial Buildings, The Reliability of Energy Performance Analysis systems in Existing Buildings in Ireland, Insulating Traditional Solid Walled Buildings, Cob as an alternative to Concrete Block Construction, and Upgrading Energy Efficiency in Protected Structures.

Acting Head of Department of the Built Environment at DkIT, Denise Quigley said

I want to congratulate the students for the high standard of their presentations. I also want to thank James Lonergan from the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland for joining us to discuss and review the research carried out by our students and for presenting Niamh Irish with the award for her presentation.
