The Tech Transfer Office at Dundalk Institute of Technology recently hosted an event focused on energy, climate, and natural resources. Funded by Knowledge Transfer Ireland, the event brought together industry leaders, businesses, academics, and researchers to discuss innovative energy solutions.

Dr. Breda Brennan, Head of Engineering at DkIT, opened the event, emphasising the importance of sustainability and the work of the CREDIT Research Centre. Dr. Fergal O’Rourke from the CREDIT Research Centre, joined by researcher Dr. Chee Meng Pang, presented on recent collaborative projects, addressing key challenges such as geopolitical issues and the pursuit of net-zero targets.

Dominic McLarnon explored opportunities for collaboration between research organisations and industry, particularly highlighting DkIT’s CREDIT Technology Gateway through exemplary case studies. He emphasised that such collaborations are increasingly recognised as essential for fostering innovation through knowledge exchange.

Shane Reenan, from Dundalk-based company Re-Tech Offshore, shared an engaging account of his experiences in the offshore wind industry and discussed his interactions with the CREDIT Technology Gateway.

Dr. Joseph Lynch from the Centre for Freshwater and Environmental Studies (CFES) at DkIT highlighted the Centre's interdisciplinary research on water, communities, catchments, and agri-environmental education. With nearly 30 staff members, CFES excels in water quality, governance, and environmental education. Key initiatives include the "H2O Heroes" school programme and the Aquainverts app. The Centre also investigates contaminants, animal feed efficiency, and soil health using advanced laboratory equipment, promoting regional environmental awareness and protection.

Attendees also had the opportunity to explore the Research Laboratory, where they experienced firsthand the equipment used by DkIT researchers and learned about the work of current PhD students.
