DkIT’s Education Partnership with Blackmagic Design goes from Strength to Strength

02 April 2024

DkIT’s educational partnership with world renowned Blackmagic Design continues to go from strength to strength with recent student success and Masterclass collaborations.

As the only Irish member of the company’s Education Partner Program, DkIT students have been given access to a range of online Masterclasses from Industry experts covering topics from feature film editing workflows, colour grading for the music industry and embarking on a career in film production.

Jessica Thompson, a fourth-year BA (Hons) Film & Television student, attended the Masterclass given by Irish filmmaker Cian Hamilton and was successful in winning a range of Blackmagic Design post-production hardware and software. These included a DaVinci Resolve Colour Grading Micro Panel, a DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor and a copy of Davinci Resolve Studio 18 software.

In addition to the Student Masterclass series, DkIT Post Production Lecturer Kevin Cunnane was able to secure an exclusive Blackmagic Design Masterclass for third-year BA (Hons) Film & Television students as part of their Advanced Visual Effects module. In it, Blackmagic Post Production Technical Sales Specialist Paul Young gave an insightful and fully interactive class on 3D Camera Tracking inside DaVinci Resolve’s Fusion visual effects compositing software. From Blackmagic’s UK base in Manchester, Paul was able to showcase new techniques and then answer student questions on the Visual Effects industry.

Post Production Lecturer Kevin Cunnane said:

This was a wonderful opportunity to use our links with Blackmagic Design, to give our students industry level expertise into the workings of DaVinci Resolve Fusion. Gaining further knowledge into the use of complex visual effects software will further enhance the skills of our students upon graduation”.
