Dundalk Institute of Technology were pleased to recently host the Department of Humanities 3^rd annual Symposium on the theme of "Liminality and Social Critique". This event was attended by staff and students from across the School of Business and Humanities. Speakers on the day presented on topics ranging from literature and drama to archaeology and history, to digital humanities. Presenters included lecturing staff and postgraduates from DkIT, as well as some remote presenters based in Islamabad, California, and Pennsylvania. 

The Institute were delighted to welcome the multi-award-winning Irish author Anne Griffin, who gave a compelling reading from her most recent novel Listening Still. There was also a keynote address on Locating the State in Revolutionary Ireland, 1919-1923 which was given by former esteemed lecturer from the Department of Humanities, Dr Martin Maguire.

The day finished with the official launch of The Graveyard in Literature: Liminality and Social Critique, a volume of essays edited by Dr Aoileann Ní Éigeartaigh. Contributors to the volume include Dr Fiona Fearon and Róisín McDermott, a graduate of the BA in Digital Humanities.

The Department of Humanities offers a range of programmes across the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. The Institute has a long history of Humanities education, with the first programmes established as early as 1996. The Department began by focusing on areas such as Cultural Studies and Multimedia, before growing to encapsulate Sports, Social Care, Youth Work and Arts. Our graduates have proven to be leaders in their fields, with many working across the northeast region, making strong contributions to local life and society.
