Girona, Spain, 21-23 January 2014

3rd NETLAKE Working Group meeting and Management Committee meeting

The NETLAKE Cost Action Management Committee and Working Group meeting took place in Girona 21-23 January.  It was attended by 52 participants from twenty-four countries.  Day 1 of the three day meeting included presentations from three local Spanish SMEs on high frequency monitoring technology, and a talk from Jesus Marco de Lucas (Institute of Physics of Cantabria-IFCA) on LifeWatch, an EU research infrastructure that is currently under development (www.lifewatch.eu). Matthias Koschorreck (UFZ, Germany) gave an overview of the Rappbode Reservoir observatory, a drinking water source, with a particular focus on dissolved organic carbon.  Over the three days the participants also heard presentations about the interesting work that took place in NETLAKE Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) in 2013.

This meeting coincided with the start of the second phase of NETLAKE which will run from 2014 to 2015, and build on the planning during the first year of the Action. The work of four science Working Groups included on-going development of the NETLAKE metadatabase in WG 1, and the Water Pals schools project in WG 3, the group focused on citizen science, while WG 2 and WG 4 focused on a set of coordinated STSMs which will be undertaken in 2014 on topics suggested by water resource managers at the NETLAKE meeting in Amersfoort in October 2013. The next meeting will take place in June 2014 in Sweden just before the first NETLAKE Training School.
