The information on fees and grants is the latest available at the time of going to press but is subject to change by the Department of Education, the Examining Bodies and the Governing Body.

Student Contribution Fees (Undergraduate):

The Student Contribution fee is payable by all students who do not qualify for grants or scholarships. The Student Contribution Fee for 2017/18 is €3000. This fee is payable by 30th September 2017.

Tuition Fees (Undergraduate):

Tuition Fees on Undergraduate Courses are paid by the Department of Education on behalf of all students who qualify. Students who qualify are students who are citizens of member states of the European Union who are undertaking full-time undergraduate courses at Certificate, Diploma and Degree level for the first time. Some non-EU students may qualify, depending on their legal status.

Payment in Instalments (Undergraduate):

Students can pay their fees in two instalments. If you opt to pay in instalments, 50% of your fees must be paid is due at time of registration. Instalment 2 is due by 31 January. Failure by a student to pay outstanding fees will result in services being withdrawn. Students with fees owing to the Institute will not be permitted to register until such time as the outstanding fees are paid in full. Final year students will not be recorded as a graduate and no complete results or complete academic record will be issued, unless full payment of all outstanding fees is made.

The Institute may also offer a facility to pay in instalments outside this general scheme where financial hardship may be demonstrated or for specific programmes or student cohorts.
Determination of eligibility of students for payment by instalment resides with the Fee Collection Committee (See Section 9 of the Procedures for Collection of Fees) for full-time students and the Lifelong Learning Manager for part-time students in consultation with other Institute personnel as appropriate.
Where a student has been deemed eligible to pay by instalment and if they miss their instalment payment date, services will be withdrawn.

All fees must be paid by applicants prior to the start of a part-time programme. The Lifelong Learning Centre are happy to accept tuition fee payments in weekly, twice a month or monthly instalments as long as the fee is paid in full prior to the commencement of the programme. An exception to this is where employers issue written confirmation that they are to be billed for their student’s fees. Invoices are then issued to the employer by the LLLC 1-4 weeks after the programme commences.

Fees NI / UK:

If you’re planning study in the Republic of Ireland, then your university or college will charge you an annual fee contribution. The maximum amount for 2016/17 is €3000. To cover this upfront cost, you can get a Student Contribution Loan to help pay up to the full amount of the fee contribution. This is an interest bearing repayable loan. The Student Contribution Charge will be paid directly to DkIT by the Student Loans Company upon receipt of an invoice from the Institution. You may also be entitled to a Maintenance Loan to help with living costs.

Withdrawal / Deferral from Course: Important notice to all students

If you are considering deferring your place or withdrawing from your course it is most important that you contact the Admissions Office to notify the Institute that you are deferring or withdrawing. Failure to do this can affect your refund of fees paid and may also result in you being liable for tuition fees if you resume your studies at a later date. Please note that it is not enough to verbally notify a Lecturer or Head of Department that you are leaving or deferring, please contact the Admissions Office and fill in one of the below forms:

General Information on Grants

The Department of Education and Skills have published the Student Grant Scheme for the 2017/18 academic year on the Citizens Information website and they are advising students to apply as early as possible for a grant so as to avoid long delays in processing applications. Do not wait until you receive your CAO offer, ensure you correctly complete the application forms, send in the correct supporting documentation and do not miss the application deadline or you will face long delays in getting your grant application accessed.  Closing date for the prioritising of renewal applications is 15th June 2017 and for new applications is 13th July 2017

New Grant Applications:

All new applications for 2017/18, including students changing their courses or progressing to new courses (be they add-on courses or otherwise), will be made online through Student Universal Support Ireland, SUSI, SUSI pays students directly in to their nominated bank accounts. All payments (Levels 6/7/8) under this scheme will be paid directly into your bank account on a monthly basis. Please contact SUSI for detailed payment schedule.

Renewal SUSI applications 

Students awarded by SUSI in 2016/17 must renew their application online and SUSI will notify them by email when this facility is available.  Students who are progressing to the next year of their course must renew their grants.

How to apply for a Grant?

The Department of Education and Skills has taken the first major step to overhaul the student grant system. The four schemes has been replaced by a single unified scheme this year, namely Student Universal Support Ireland, SUSI. This will make it far easier for students to apply for a grant. Students should visit or to access information about student grants and to complete or download a Student Grant Application Form. Change of Family Income

A student whose family income has changed can apply to be considered for a grant (or an increased level of grant) at any stage in his/her programme. The basis for such an application can be the current family situation rather than income in the last financial year.

Back to Education Allowance

Information relevant to the Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) can be found on the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection web site, under Education & Training / Third Level Education / Grants and funds available for mature students 

Mature Students

Mature students (over 23 on 1st January of year of entry to course) entering or re-entering college may be entitled to be assessed independently of their parents/guardian for a grant/scholarship. Visit SUSI website for further details.

Student Assistant Fund:

The Student Assistance Fund provides financial assistance for full-time higher education students who are experiencing financial difficulties whilst attending college. Students can apply for Student Assistance to help them with either temporary or ongoing financial difficulties. The Student Assistance Fund provides a further source of funding for higher education students in addition of the Student Grant.

Applications for the Student Assistance Fund can be made through the Student Services Office from Monday 1st October 2017. Both application form and information leaflet can be downloaded using the button below. You are required to fully complete the application form and attach all required documents. Incomplete application forms with insufficient supporting documents will not be accepted. The fund does not cover tuition or registration fees, examination fees and loans.
