Higher Education Grants are awarded at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The single grant awarding authority is Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI). In addition to free tuition at undergraduate level, the principal support available is a means-tested maintenance grant.

The Student Assistance Fund provides financial assistance for full-time higher education students who are experiencing financial difficulties whilst attending college. This fund is also available to part-time students who are lone parents or members of the other access target groups.
