DkIT Pays Tribute to the late Dr. T.K. Whitaker

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) is saddened at the news of the death of the renowned civil servant and economist, Dr T. K. Whitaker, at the age of 100. Dr. Whitaker was a close friend and inspiration to DkIT over the years and in 2001 the Institute was honoured to dedicate its Learning and Resource Centre to his name.  The T.K. Whitaker Building, as it is now known, remains a central hub of teaching and learning for students and academics at the Institute and is host to DkIT’s vibrant library, its Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning and a 200-seater lecture theatre.

Dr. Whitaker was a regular visitor to the campus and he attended various DkIT events and performances over the years. He also celebrated his 98th Birthday with staff and students.

Speaking today, Ann Campbell, President of DkIT said “It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of T.K. Whitaker. Dr. Whitaker made an outstanding contribution to Irish life, changing the lives of generations in Ireland for the better. He will be remembered as one of our nation’s true visionaries and great public servants. We are privileged to honour his memory through the T.K. Whitaker Building which will continue to act as a beacon of knowledge, dedication, teaching and learning for our staff and students. On behalf of the Institute, I would like to offer my condolences to the Whitaker family and friends at this time.”
