Brian Friel’s modern, Hibernicised, adaptation of Ibsen’s classic is presented as part of the BA Theatre and Film Practice at Dundalk Institute of Technology. The third-year BA Theatre and Film Practice students add contemporary credibility to Friel’s interpretation, imbibing this classic with a fresh relevance.
Synopsis: Hedda Gabler returns home from a long honeymoon to her new home. Seemingly dissatisfied by her obliging academic husband and bored by her surroundings, she rejects a life of tedium by conspiring to create tension and drama among her family and friends. Aided by the cunning Judge Brack, Hedda enacts a campaign of manipulation on those around her, illuminating a wide variety of hidden secrets and desires.
