DkIT Creativity and Innovation Workshops

The Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) will hold a series of free workshops for children at DkIT on Saturday 8 December with the support of Creative Ireland.

Focusing on the theme of creativity and innovation for young people, the creativity-based workshops will give participants the opportunity to engage in a range of artistic areas focusing on the areas of music technology, audio production, digital and creative media and STEAM.

In line with the pillars of Creative Ireland the workshops seek to nurture creativity in the young people of Co. Louth. The availability of these workshops will extend access to participants to utilise state of the art facilities in order to explore new concepts and nurture their creative thinking from a young age. The workshops will take place in the creative facilities of the PJ Carroll's Building at DkIT including mac labs, recording and editing spaces. Participation in the workshops will allow participants the opportunity to explore interdisciplinary concepts and topical issues.

For example, the STEAM workshops will allow participants to explore the merging of the arts with STEM subjects and engage in the learning of some science-based activities through the medium of music, song and dance, exploring the importance of bees and other pollinators in the world. Students will have the opportunity to design and make badges as well as learn about creative compositional methods using midi.

Other workshops will engage in character development and audio production  It is envisaged that the workshops will open the minds of our participants and encourage their development of new ideas.

The workshops are free and open to young people between the age of 10 and 18. Booking is essential as places are limited. Prior experience in the areas listed above is not necessary.
