Items That Can/Cannot be Requested

Items that can be requested

  • Books
  • Book chapters
  • Journal articles
  • Proceedings of a conference
  • Government publication
  • Technical reports
  • Theses (in certain cases)

The item must be available in a library in Ireland or the UK. When requesting books, items that are available in other Institutes of Technology (IOTs) are preferred.

There is no limit to the number of requests you can make each year. However, you should note that you cannot renew ILLs and you should therefore take time restrictions into account. We recommend making no more than two book requests at a time.

Items that cannot be requested

  • Special collection items
  • Reference items
  • Early Printed Material
  • Research items
  • Theses (in certain cases)
  • Short loan items
  • Videos, DVDs and CDs
  • Items available in the Library's print or online collection
  • Items available free online

For copyright regulations you may not make duplicate requests for an article which has already been supplied to you.
For copyright reasons the Library cannot supply a number of individuals with the same material for the same purpose at the same time. If multiple copies are required please contact interlibrary.loans@dkit.ie.
