Course Summary

This four-year honours degree programme has been designed to allow students to choose their own unique path in IT with computing programme specialising in Web & Mobile Development, Computer Science, Computer Security or Data Science. The programme will ensure that students have knowledge of the fundamental principles of computing, yet will also allow students select their own area of expertise.

The breadth of the IT sector is huge and graduates are required with expertise in areas from computer networking to mobile technologies, from the Internet to Big Data, and from games to software development. To deal with the vast scope within this sector, we have developed a course that allows students to choose their own unique path through a computing course specialising in Web & Mobile Development, Computer Science, Computer Security or Data Science.

The course will ensure that students have knowledge of the fundamental principles of computing, yet will also allow students select their own area of expertise. All computer software development oriented Level 8 courses share a common core of 20 credits per semester. The course offers four different elective streams: Web and Mobile, Computer Science, Computer Security, and Data Science. In year one students get an introduction to all four streams, in year two you choose two streams and in year three and four you focus on one of these.

During the course of your studies you will:

  • develop advanced problem-solving and computer-programming skills
  • acquire in-depth knowledge of current and emerging Internet technologies
  • develop as a team player, capable of working as part of a modern software development team
  • manage your own learning and become capable of carrying out independent research.
