The Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is pleased to offer its professional development programme, Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching. This programme is open to all those involved in teaching, training and/or supporting learning.
The Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is pleased to offer its professional development programme, Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching, to our colleagues within DkIT.
The Programme aims are as follows:
- To deepen understanding of learner-centred and technology-enhanced approaches to learning, teaching and assessment.
- To develop and improve the quality of learning and teaching through self-reflection and self-assessment.
- To support participants in their initial and continuing development as professional teachers, proficient in best practices in learning, teaching and assessment.
- To build a practitioner-based community of teachers and researchers capable of contributing to learning and teaching scholarship, both nationally and internationally.
- To create ambassadors for learning and teaching and future leaders in this field.
Please note that this is a professional development programme which does not lead to registration with the Teaching Council.

Master's Research Project
This course will be delivered in blended mode, using face-to-face and online delivery. There will be 6 weeks of face-to-face teaching (3 hour afternoon sessions, 1.00 pm to 4.00pm) and 6 weeks of online teaching.
Applicants for the Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching should hold an Honours degree. The programme is practice focused so applicants must be engaged in sufficient teaching to allow them to meet the programme learning outcomes.
For example, in the IOT sector an average of approximately 8 hours teaching per week across two semesters typically would be sufficient. The course will be delivered in blended mode, using face-toface and online delivery.
There will be 6 weeks of face-to-face teaching (3–hour Friday afternoon sessions, 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm) and 6 weeks of online teaching approximately. The Institute’s regulations on Admissions shall apply.
- This programme is likely to be of interest to anyone involved in teaching, training and/or supporting learning.
- While the overall award is the MA in Learning and Teaching (with Honours), exit awards are available at both Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma level.

- While the overall award is the MA in Learning and Teaching (with Honours), exit awards are available at both Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma level.
- Blended and flexible learning strategies are used considerably throughout the Programme.
- All modules are technology enhanced, modelling best practice approaches in e-pedagogy.
- Researching one’s practice is incorporated into all modules using action research/case study type methodologies. Deep learning, incorporating practice-based research, is therefore promoted.
- Coursework is mainly evidence-based and theory to practice applications considered a priority.
- Portfolio-based research showing progression and development in relevant professional contexts/subject teaching is also prioritised.
