Course Overview

The aim of this programme is to equip graduates with an advanced knowledge of agri-food sector, encompassing quality management, food safety and lean manufacturing. This innovative programme is aligned with the needs of the agri-food industry and sustainable practices. 

Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the areas of sustainable food production, quality management, lean manufacturing and food safety. Students will develop a critical awareness of current challenges and advances in technologies in sustainable food production systems, underpinned and informed by relevant support policies. Students will also have critical insight into the development and enforcement of legislation and related standards in a sustainable food industry and the role of Codex in these developments.
Students will be able to highlight knowledge gaps in the area of food technology and innovation and take a leadership role in creating awareness of future developments in this area.

Students will also appraise the workplace layout in a manufacturing setting and incorporate Visual Management Systems to improve efficiency, reduce waste and complexity. Students will be able to appraise the implications of various policies, scientific, technical and economic advances from individual or collective work and promote positive sustainable change.  

 

What makes this course different

Flexible Delivery

All lectures will be online one day per week to facilitate students who are in employment. There are also 2 days of additional face-to-face site visits over the duration of the course (1 semester).

Development of knowledge and skills in an area of demand across both business and services sectors in Food.

Course Delivery and Modules

This programme will be delivered predominately online with some face-to-face workshops in DkIT.

Fees and Funding

Course fee is €1275 payable in 2 instalments as follows:

  • Instalment 1: €200 (non-refundable) is payable to confirm your acceptance of a course place.
  • Instalment 2: €1075 is payable by the 28th February.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of a second-class honours degree (Grade 2) in Agriculture, Food Science, Science, Business, Engineering or related disciplines.

For candidates who do not meet the above entry criteria but have considerable relevant experience in the agri-food sector, the DkIT Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy and procedures will be applied. Learn more about RPL at DkIT
