Certificate in Building Energy Management
Course Summary
This 12 week course will provide learners with a solid understanding of low energy building design and management with a view to enhancing career development in this area.

The course will focus on Sustainable Energy, Energy Technology, Project Management, Energy Policy & Legislation and Energy Auditing.
The knowledge, skills and competencies that participants will gain are relevant to their career development. The treatment of all course subjects will encourage the development of intellectual skills of analysis, synthesis, critique and communication. This will be achieved by building upon both prior learning and experience of participants to develop a broader understanding of low energy building design and management.
The course is structured as follows:
- Report Writing & Communications
- Surveying and Energy Management
- Sustainable Energy
- Energy Technology
- Passive & Low Energy Design
The course is delivered in two/ three hour classes, over two evenings per week, in academic semesters that run from September to December and January to May, with some Saturdays throughout the year.
Induction will take place on Tuesday 18th September @ 6.00pm and course will commence on Thursday 20th September.
Participants of this course may use this qualification to progress their career in the following areas:
- Energy & Property Management
- Sustainable Design
- Project Management
- Property Manager
- Energy Auditing & Assessment
To be eligible for entry to the course, prospective candidates must have obtained ONE of the following:
Five passes in the Leaving Certificate including Mathematics and either Irish or English.
Pass grade in the LCVP
Applicants with equivalent qualifications and/or relevant minimum 5 years work experience in the case of mature student applications (i.e. over 23 years of age).
AND -Applicants MUST have a trade background or professional working within the property industry.
This course has been designed to facilitate professionals practicing in the areas of building design, management and technology. Its purpose is to provide expertise in terms of; energy use, environmental performance and sustainability in the design and operation of buildings and their associated facilities and services systems.
