Course Overview

This one semester Level 9 certified programme, BIM & Collaborative Data Management, will equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to use Revit software methods and techniques for creating Building Information Modelling (BIM) based models.

Additionally, it will provide learners with an understanding of the management procedures associated with Collaborative Information Management within a Common Data Environment.

The programme will enhance a student’s career opportunities throughout the surveying and built environments professions, including building surveying, architecture, architectural technology, building control, fire safety, engineering and project management.

Course Delivery and Modules

One class of three hours per week for 1 semester delivered online, (typically Friday at either 9 am to 12 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm.

Students of this programme will join students of the MSc in Postgraduate Diploma in Building Surveying for online delivery.

  • Course Content

    • Producing Graphical Data: using Autodesk Revit to produce a building design project and refining the building elements through family management.
    • Producing Non-Graphical Data: using Autodesk Revit to produce non graphical parametric data.
    • Producing Documentation and Visualisations including annotations, schedules, 3D views and renderings.
    • Principles of BIM: concepts and principles of BIM with reference to ISO 19650.
    • Common Data Environment Management: collaborative production of information and quality assurance procedures employed.

Education Progression

This is a higher education Level 9 7.5-credit module which may be recognised for modules exemption on DkIT programmes in Building Surveying. It may also be recognised for module exemption on other programmes by other higher education providers.

Students would need to have a Honours Degrees (2:2 or better) in a related (cognate) area.
