Active IQ Certificate in Personal Training
This 1-year course will develop learners with existing knowledge and skills in gym instruction who would like to develop their skills and knowledge to pursue a career in personal training.

This course aims to develop learners with existing knowledge and skills in gym instruction who would like to develop their skills and knowledge to pursue a career in personal training. This qualification consists of a total of 6 mandatory units at EQF level 4. A suitable qualification at EQF level 3 is a pre-requisite for entry to this course.
This qualification consists of a total of 6 mandatory units:
Unit 1: Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness
Unit 2: The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health.
Unit 3: Understanding lifestyle, health, wellbeing and common medical conditions
Unit 4: Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients
Unit 5: Programme design and delivery for personal training.
Unit 6: Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers.
The course is one academic year in duration and runs during the daytime.
- The theory classes will run on Wednesday afternoons 2-5pm and online for units 2, 4 and 6.
- Practical classes will run on Thursdays 9-11am or 11-1pm (students can choose their slot).
This qualification will enable learners, who have existing knowledge and skills in gym instruction, to pursue a career in personal training.
Learners may also progress onto qualifications in related sectors, such as Sports Massage or Pilates, where they will be provided with the knowledge and skills to practice these skills alongside personal training in the health and exercise environment.
The fees for this course are is €995.00. (This includes professional registration, manuals, workbooks, assessment and certification fees for the qualification).
A suitable EQF level 3 qualification in Gym Instructing. The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary. There is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) and numeracy involved in this course.
This course will be of interest to gym instructors wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as personal trainers and/or individuals, who already hold a gym instructor qualification, wishing to become self-employed running their own personal training business.

This Active IQ qualification provides access onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS Ireland) at level 4 and is fully accredited by the European Health and Fitness Association(www.ehfa.eu).
