  • Learn industry based CAD / CAM software
  • Learn modern manufacturing Technologies such as 3D Printing / CNC machining
  • Take a design idea from concept through to manufacture

Course Summary

This 1-year part-time level 6 programme is designed for anyone wanting to gain knowledge of product design, prototyping and fabrication using digital computer-controlled processes. The programme is co-delivered by DkIT and Creative Spark, Dundalk.

Important notice about this course

This course is run in partnership with Creative Spark ( and Dundalk Chamber Skillnet (

Skillnet funding of up to 30% of tuiton fee may be available to qualifying participants.*  Contact Aidan Callan via for more information on this.

*Qualifying participants must be employed and ROI resident.

The programme will introduce students to the various digital design process used in product and machine design. Students will use 3D based CAD systems to design and simulate products and machine parts operations. Then using this data, they will prototype components using such processes as 3D printing and CNC machining.

Following a design methodology student will design products and components and gain an understanding of the stages of the product development life-cycle, from project planning, concept developments, market requirements, design, analysis, prototyping and testing. The student will gain an understanding of creative design methods, material selection and manufacturing processes used for rapid prototyping.
