Users can connect their laptops to the internet using a wireless connection while on campus. Most new laptops come with a built-in wireless connection. This page contains important information about use of the DkIT Wireless Networks.
- wireless.dkit.ie - This is the main wireless network for staff and students.
- guest.dkit.ie - A wireless network for guests and visitors including those attending events.
- eduroam.dkit.ie - Roaming educational users from other institutions.
Some staff feel it is okay to simply purchase a wireless router and plug it into the DkIT network for their own use. However, this is a clear violation of ICT Policy as outlined above, and causes more problems than solutions. It is very seriously frowned upon by Computer Services.
eduroam (Educational Roaming) is an implementation of an infrastructure which facilitates roaming educational users to gain Internet access at other member sites by authenticating against a server hosted at their own institution.
All registered Dundalk IT students are allowed to connect their laptops, smartphones and tablets to the eduroam Student Wi-Fi service. To have a device connected to the wireless network please follow the steps below.
