Transforming Assessment Practices

Dundalk IT is involved with a sectoral pilot in conjunction with the SIF Flexible Learning project examining how technology, when complemented with appropriate pedagogical strategies, can be used to transform and improve Institute assessment practices. One of the tools currently available to the Institute is the rubric management tool called Waypoint Outcomes.

This tool allows lecturers to create complex rubrics or marking schemes that integrate with the Moodle virtual learning environment (VLE) which in turn can be shared across the Institute thus providing a repository of rubrics in various discipline areas. It also provides detailed quality assurance mechanisms that allow educational organisations to determine if programme and module learning outcomes have been achieved.

More information on this tool, including an overview video, can be found at:

This pilot is quite timely for the Institute as we examine our current assessment practices.
