Sarah Walker
Sarah Walker was born in Dublin in 1965. She studied at the National College of Art and Design and travelled extensively in Central America, India and the Himalayas before settling in West Cork A painter who tackles the genre of landscape in an original and inventive manner, Walker seeks inspiration in her local environment on the Beara Peninsula but chooses to focus on isolated motifs and overlooked textures rather than the picturesque vistas of traditional landscape painting.
By playing on intensely coloured cottage or flower in the corner of an abstract ground or alternatively removing all reference to landscape and concentrating solely on texture, Walker makes us reconsider how we experience landscape and also introduces an element of wit and innovation into a genre so often taken for granted
